Hello everyone!

This week in class 3 we are continuing to learn about our place value in maths and are working on locating 2 and 3 digit numbers on a number line, we are also going to be working on our problem solving later on in the week where the pupils will practice their reasoning skills.

In writing this week, we are concentrating on describing a setting using higher level vocabulary and paragraphs. The pupils did really well last week when their task was to describe Hiccup-here is an example of some of the pupil’s work:

Although he doesn’t look like a Viking, Hiccup is tough and is extremely brave! He is raring to fight dragons and very determined, how brave is that! Despite the fact his Dad thinks he is weak, he is fast, persevering and mature. Hiccup is very clumsy and doesn’t like it when his Dad calls him ‘weak’.

In spellings this week we are concentrating on prefixes and adding apostrophes with contractions (doesn’t, hasn’t etc.). The children will also be checking their writing books and adding the correct version of spellings they had trouble with during the week. This gives pupils a chance to focus on their own individual words, and to create a bank of spellings that they can look back on. Class 3 will be testing each other on these spellings later on in the week.

In our topic we will be learning some more the Viking invasions, as well as reading some first hand accounts of what happened. In P.E we have worked on our football skills as well as athletics, in Science we will be working on nutrition and having a healthy body, in Music we will also be listening to and appraising songs and using our glockenspiels to play along.

Class 3 are also taking part in a Christmas Card Project, and will be working on these Christmas cards during our golden time on Friday 29th September and Friday 6th October. If you would like to come and help out, please let me know.

Remember to bring in your reading records on Friday so I can sign them!

Times table test this week: x4
