In our first spelling workshop this week, we studied a poem which emphasised just what a tricky language English is, with so many different sounds made by a variety of letters. Our focus this week is the -ough grapheme. We found out that there are 7 ways these 4 letters can be pronounced when together in a word: oh, ow, oo, aw, ah-ff, uh-ff, uh-pp. Below are our focus words for the week – the class will have a dictation test on Monday so please do practice them at home:
cough
enough
bought
