In maths this week we have been working on telling the time to 15 minutes and 5 minutes. We have also been learning about durations of time and sequencing events.

In writing we are finishing off our wishing tale and writing up our hot task. We are also going to be working on a non-chronological report about owls as part of our topic.

In music, we have been working on our singing and recorder skills. We will be singing our class song in assembly on Monday. In science, we learned about micro habitats and the mini beasts that live in them.

Thank you to those who came along to the SATS parent information meeting-if you couldn’t make it and would like some of the worksheets I printed off so you can help your child at home-just ask me at the end of the day.

This week we have began some work on our time unit in maths. The pupils have been practicing telling the time to 5 minutes and to 15 minutes. We will also be revising durations of time later in the week. For maths homework this week, I will send out an arithmetic booklet along with a sheet detailing the methods that the children have learned to solve the problems.

In writing, we have began our innovation stage of our story ‘The Magic Paintbrush’. We have been using descriptive language to express our ideas as well as words containing suffixes. On Friday, there will be a dictation of the weekly spellings.

In science, we will be learning about living things and their habitats. In our topic ‘Animal Magic’ we will be working on making some bat leaflets.

Yesterday afternoon the pupils got a chance to listen to our lovely volunteer Mrs Davis tell them all about her recent trip to Myanmar. This tied in well with our last topic ‘Explorers’ as well as ‘Animal Magic’. The pupils got a chance to try on some traditional clothes and also to look at some photos of the rural villages!

In maths this week we have been comparing amounts of money, calculating totals and later in the week will be exploring how to calculate change.

In writing, we have started our unit on ‘The Magic Paintbrush’ where we will be learning how to write a wishing tale. The children focused on writing character descriptions this week, along with a short diary entry. We also have been comparing texts to find similarities and differences between them.

In our topic, we created a nocturnal animal fact file focusing on the barn owl. We also will be completing night scene pictures using water colours in art.

Class 2 are looking forward to sharing their lovely home learning projects with you on Friday! I am very impressed at the effort that has gone into each and every one.

Times table test will be on the 2, 5 and 10 tables.
